CEBU CITY: A Mandaue city lawmaker is pushing for a PHP12,000 annual cash subsidy to all registered single parents in the locality. The proposal, authored by Councilor Jimmy Lumapas, chairman of the Mandaue City Council's committee on social services, believed that the measure would hurdle the second and final reading. 'I am confident that my proposed ordinance could hurdle the second and final reading,' Lumapas told reporters. Mandaue City has 900 to 1,000 registered solo parents, whom he believed need help from the local government as they struggle to raise their children by themselves. Lumapas said the city government could provide PHP1 million a month to bankroll the cash subsidy. The city is composed of 27 barangays that have already conducted the compilation of various chapters tasked to record single parents in their area. Source: Philippines News Agency
