Brunei Darussalam is among the eight countries attending the 10th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) CAUCUS Meeting at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The four day meeting will end today. AIPA Caucus is a committee under the umbrella of the AIPA Organisation that functions as a monitor on status implementation and updating for resolutions that have been discussed and adopted at the AIPA General Assembly every year.
The country's delegation was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pendikar Alam Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Hasrin bin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Sabtu. Also in the delegation were Yang Behormat Dayang Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii and Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash'ari, members of the Legislative Council.
Apart from discussing about the status of the AIPA General Assembly resolution implementation, the meeting also highlighted several other agendas in three working groups, namely The Rise of Terrorism, Extremism, and Radicalisation: A Parliamentary Perspective; Enhancing Cooperation on Climate Action in ASEAN; and Strengthening Legal Frameworks to Protect Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism.
Among the matters dicussed in working group one is the initiative and mechanism to address the rising issue of terrorism. The group's delegation agreed that it is a vital issue to be addressed together and had the opportunity to be briefed on the initiative used by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter Terrorism.
Meanwhile, the working group 2 discussion opined that the increase in cooperation linked to climate domestically and overseas enables the region to contribute to the global effort towards tackling climate change and reach neutral carbon in the long term.
Among the contents of the working group 3 discussion included the existing leagl framework among ASEAN member nations. The meeting ended with the signing of the 10th AIPA CAUCUS Meeting Official Report by every lead representative of the AIPA member countries.
