1,265 Conversion Ceremonies Held Between 1990 To 2018

The development of the Islamic syiar in Brunei Darussalam continues to be enhanced throughout the leadership of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, which takes seriously Islamic values within the monarch's reign. Temburong District is not exempted from such development. Since 1990, Islamic syiar in the district has not only continued to develop, but, the teachings of Islam has also been well-received by the non-muslim community.

The statistics recorded by the Temburong District Dakwah Unit showed, one thousand 2-hundred and 65 conversion ceremonies have taken place since 1990 until 2018. Among government agencies responsible for the propagation of Islam in the country, in particular the Temburong District is the district's Dakwah Unit. According to Yang Berhormat Awang Haji emran bin Haji Sabtu, member of the Legislative Council who is also the Penghulu of Mukim Bokok, a number of programmes have been organised to support the propagation of Islam and the new converts which nurtures and educates them.

One of the government institutions which plays a role in the propagation of Islamic syiar in the country is the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The ministry acts in protecting Islam in the country and is responsible for all related matters aside from playing a role in planning, implementing, assessing programmes and activities in the interest of Islam in the country.

Meanwhile, for the non-muslim society, the Temburong District Dakwah Unit has also made a number of plans to disseminate the Isalmic syiar in the Temburong District specifically, and in Brunei Darussalam in general. Among the plans are visiting the homes of the non-muslim community with the aim of fostering friendship, getting to know one another, discussing and disseminating dakwah in an open manner.
