The Islamic New year of 1441 Hijrah is celebrated filled with gratitude and piety at all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide late yesterday afternoon. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the National Level Hijrah New Year celebration at Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampung Kiarong.
Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as the Chairman of the Executive Committee for Major Islamic Events of 1441 Hijrah;
- Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara;
- Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, and
- Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doktor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti, as well as other Executive Committee members.
Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel.
The National Level 1441 Hijrah New Year Celebration began with the 3 times reading of the doa marking the end of 1440 Hijrah, led by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin.
The arrival of 1441 Hijrah was welcomed with 21 shots of the cannon at the Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah compound.
The Mass Fardhu Maghrib prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim also led the three times reading of the New Year 1441 Hijrah doa.
To seek blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala so that the country can gain prosperity and well-being and be protected from disasters, the mass Sunat Hajat prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim.
This was followed by the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doktor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
The Minister of Religious Affairs in his capacity as the Chairman of the Executive Committee for Major Islamic Events of 1441 Hijrah, in his welcoming speech among other matters touched on this year's theme "Rezeki Halal Mengundang Rahmat Negara Berkat" which further emphasises that a complete life of religion and nationhood which is progressive with a mastery of knowledge and skills, high standard of living must be accompanied with effort and determination through halal and syar'ie ways. The Minister added that the country's development in all fields is carried out with the pure intention of not deviating from the religion.
The Hijrah talk entitled "Rezeki Halal Mengundang Rahmat Negara Berkat" was delivered by Awang Hilman bin Haji Salim, Assistant Lecturer of the Core Knowledge Centre at Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU-SB further enlivened the celebration. The talk also emphasised that faith is the key to blessings as without faith we will fail to gain blessings and will be far from Allah the Almighty since our prayers will not be fulfilled.
Doa selamat was read by the State Mufti. The ceremony continued with the reading of Saiyidul Istighfar and Doa seeking blessings. His Majesty and the other congregants then performed the mass Isya' prayer led by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin. Before departing, His Majesty and the royal family received junjung ziarah from the congregants.
