163 New Cases, 5 New Clusters

163 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 9 thousand 828. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health, stated the matter during the media conference on the latest COVID-19 situation in Brunei Darussalam. Joining the media conference at Dewan Al ‘Afiah, Ministry of Health, was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy.

There are 48 additional new cases to 19 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases. Meanwhile, five new clusters have been detected that involved 44 cases. All of the new clusters are residence clusters, wherein three of it, namely LNS Sdn Bhd Cluster, Hasnaljar Sdn Bhd Cluster, and Degymix Enterprise Cluster are housing clusters where the companies’ employees are residing. Two clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are the IBTE KB Cluster and 1888 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 166 clusters. 71 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

183 cases have recovered bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 7,498, with 2,263 cases remaining active. Among the cases, 7 cases are in Category 5 and are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine or ECMO. 27 Category 4 cases require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring. In the past 24 hours, 5,474 samples have been tested for the SARS-Co-V-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 425,000 tests.
