In a landmark development in the academic scene, two Bruneian academics were recently promoted to full Professors. It is for their illustrious track record in teaching, service and academic excellence. These appointments are momentous in that for the first time in Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s history.
They are Professor Ampuan Doktor Haji Brahim bin Ampuan Haji Tengah, as an expert in Malay literary studies; and Professor Doctor Haji Awang Asbol bin Haji Mail, Specialising in Brunei history, Malay Islamic Monarchy and Malay Civilisation. The Malay programmes in UBD have steadily produced graduates specialising in Malay linguistics, language, literature and history. These Bruneian scholars have continued to research and publish in top journals, with invitations to deliver keynote and plenary papers, participate in forums, sit in prestigious academic associations, and winning national and international awards.
