2 Million Muslims Perform the Wukuf

Approximately 2 million Muslims from all over the world including the haj pilgrims from Brunei Darussalam are now gathered at Arafah for the Wukuf which is the highlight of haj. Arafah, which is located around 20 kilometres from Makkah Al-Mukarramah, is the largest gathering place for Muslims on every 9th of Zulhijjah.

The Wukuf is the most essential rite of the Haj because one who fails to attend the wukuf at Arafah will not be regarded as a true Haj. During the day of Wukuf, Allah the Almighty grants and accepts all supplications and good deeds, and pilgrims pass the day praying and reciting the Talbiah, zikir and tahmid. The Wukuf at Arafah was broadcast live to the whole world by the Government of Saudi Arabia. The ritual commences from the start of the Zuhur prayer period until before dawn prayer today, the 10th of Zulhijjah in Saudi Arabia. After the Wukuf, the pilgrims will proceed to Muzdalifah, where they collect pebbles for stoning the Jamrah or Devil stones. Pilgrims are obligated to stay overnight at Muzdalifah or at least until after midnight before proceeding to Mina for the stoning of Jamrah Aqabah or the largest of the 3 Devil Stones. Saudi Arabia celebrates Aidil Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice tomorrow. Haj pilgrims including Brunei Darussalam's will stone the 3 Jamrah starting on Wednesday, the first Tashrik day or the 11th of Zulhijjah. The stoning of the Jamrah continues on the 12th and 13th of Zulhijjah.
