21st Commonwealth Games Post-Mortem Meeting

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council in a sabda stressed that the national athletes should gain experience to enhance their respective skills in sports. His Royal Highness added that high commitment and discipline from all levels, be it at the management section or among the athletes, are important factors for the team's success. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the question and answer session for the 21st Commonwealth Games Post-Mortem Meeting. The meeting took place yesterday morning at the Conference Room of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas

The function commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Awang Haji Emran bin Haji Kunchang.

Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports among other things said that the presence of His Royal Highness at the meeting portrays His Royal Highness' continuous care and concern towards all the efforts in expanding the field of sports in the country. Yang Berhormat Pehin also highly uphold the sabda of His Royal Highness which will surely encourage them to work diligently in order to enhance and maintain the quality of sports in the country. The Minister added that it is important to hold a Post-Mortem as it will act as a guideline in the efforts to further improve the athlete's performance and achievements.

At the meeting, a report was presented pertaining to the 21st Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia. Retired Major Mohd Talip bin Mohd Tahir, as the Chef de Mission in his report among other things called for a more intensive and comprehensive preparation for the athlete, overseas training and higher quality exposure matches to further improve the athlete's performance in the future. The athletes also need to quickly adapt and familiarise themselves with the surrounding of the competition's location.

During the question and answer session, His Royal Highness in a sabda reminded that all management should be carried in a proper and committed manner so that all goes smooth and well. His Royal Highness also stressed that athletes should mind their discipline and the country's image when they are at overseas. The country sent 8 athletes and 4 officers at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia recently. At the Games, the national team only took part in lawn bowling. Also present was Awang Haji Amer Hamzah bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as the Chairman of the National Athlete Assessment and Selection Executive Committee.
