22nd ASEAN-China Summit

His Majesty describes China as an important strategic partner who has greatly contributed to regional peace, economic growth and social progress. In the titah, His Majesy is pleased with the efforts to enhance infrastructure development in order to increase movement of goods, services and investments within and beyond the Southeast Asian region. His Majesty made the titah at the the 22nd ASEAN-China Summit yesterday morning at the Impact Arena, Exhibition and Trade Centre, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok, Thailand. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

The summit commenced with the Opening Statement from the Prime Minister of Thailand as Chairman of ASEAN.

At the Summit, His Majesty in the titah says that equal focus should start to be given to digital connectivity, and welcomes that 2020 will be the ASEAN-China Year of Digital Economy Cooperation, which serves to help enhance e-commerce in the ASEAN region. His Majesty adds that maintaining peace and security in the South China Sea is of paramount importance to all countries, especially considering its significance for the movement of goods and people through the Code of Conduct, C.O.C. in the South China Sea, which reflects the collective commitment to address issues through peaceful dialogue. Therefore, negotiating parties are urged to continue to build on such trust and understanding in order to advance the C.O.C. negotiations.
