254 New Cases, 3 New Clusters

254 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Brunei Darussalam, bringing the total number to 6,540. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health stated the matter yesterday afternoon at a media conference on the latest COVID-19 situation at Dewan Al ‘Afiah, Ministry of Health.

The Minister of Health said there are 111 additional new cases to 15 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases. Meanwhile, three new clusters have been detected, bringing the current total active clusters to 106. The new clusters are Permata Leo Vessel Cluster that contains 10 cases and Salvin Princess Vessel Cluster that contains 6 cases. Meanwhile to date, 6 cases have been detected following the swab sweep operation that was conducted at the Kampung Pengkalan Gadong area on 22nd to 25th September 2021. In the meantime, 121 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

Meanwhile, 138 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 4,326 cases, with 2,170 cases remaining active. Among the cases, eight cases are in Category 5 and are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with one case requiring the help of an additional heart/lung machine, ECMO. 34 Category 4 cases require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

In the past 24 hours, a total of 5,508 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 335,986 tests.
