28th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting

​Cultural and creative industries has a role as an enabler and driver for ASEAN socio-economic growth.  Speaking at the 28th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, ASCC Council Meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports also pointed out that youth empowerment agenda remains in the forefront of ASCC’s deliverables and stressed the need to continue to offer youth platforms.

 

At the meeting, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad also shared the view that the Siem Riep Declaration will allow ASEAN to embrace new emerging trends, and further uplift the livelihood of the cultural and creative workers. The Ministers also welcomed developments on ASEAN Plus China sports cooperation as well as the implementation of the ASEAN Framework on Care Economy, through the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and the designation of care economy as a Research and Development Platform under ASCC.

 

The ASCC Ministers also endorsed and noted the ASCC outcome documents that will be submitted to the ASEAN Leaders at the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits to be held in November in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports also held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia and ASCC Council 2022 Chair; and ASCC Council Minister and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs of Indonesia, as the incoming ASCC Council 2023 Chair.
