The second International Seminar on Research on Malay, SAPEMM can elevate the image of the Bruneian civilisation in particular and the Malays in general. SAPEMM can also contribute to the exploration and development of knowledge on Malay extensively. The seminar was officiated yesterday morning at the Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement, ILIA of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD.
It was officiated by Associate Professor Doctor Ayub Sadiq, the Acting Vice Chancellor of UBD. Themed "Memartabatkan Pengajian Melayu di Peringkat Antarabangsa: Pluralisme Budaya dan Manuskrip Melayu Meningkatkan Imej Tamadun Bangsa", the seminar brings together local and international experts, researchers and academics, and will see the presentation of findings from the latest researches on Malay.
In his keynote entitled 'Malay Studies in a Wider Context: The Case of Brunei Studies', Professor Doctor Arndt Graf from the Department of Southeast Asian Studies of Goethe-University Frankfurt, among others stated that since achieving independence, the Malay World has played a role in the politics, economy and culture which grow in importance in Southeast Asia and at the global scale. At the same time, the number of academics produced by universities and research centres in the Malay World has also increased at a faster rate. More than 30 working papers will be discussed during the 3-day seminar organised jointly by the Academy of Brunei Studies and the Faculty of Arts and Social Science of UBD and the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, Goethe-University Frankfurt.
