Recipients of the Citizenship Status Certificates as the citizens of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam should defend and uphold the sovereignty of Brunei Darussalam and its Monarch as a Monarchy with its Malay Islamic Monarchy, MIB philosophy. It is also their obligation to obey the country's laws and regulations as well as maintain and safeguard the peace and security for the well-being of the country's citizens and residents. The matter was highlighted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs during the 32nd Presentation Ceremony of Citizenship Status Certificates.
The Minister said it is the obligation of those who have been awarded citizenship status to give undivided loyalty to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as demanded by Islam. The MIB philosophy must be safeguarded and practised and history has taught us to protect customs and traditions and the way of life that adhere to values of MIB namely Malay, Islamic and Monarchy which are specified in life and strengthened through education. Yang Berhormat Pehin added the people of Brunei Darussalam have been able to live in peace and harmony by practising mutual respect and that the MIB values are not solely to be learnt and understood but more importantly to be practised in daily life.
By consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di- Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, 222 people who have been given the country's citizenship received the Citizenship Status Certificates. The recipients have fulfilled the conditions of the Brunei Citizenship Status Act and other specified conditions. According to statistics, from January 2017 to October this year, one thousand and two hundred sixty two people have been awarded citizenships.
