As part of efforts to increase public awareness on the importance of using life jackets while on boat rides, the Ministry of Communications and the Brunei Darussalam Maritime and Ports Authority yesterday morning held the 3rd campaign on the importance of wearing life jackets. The campaign began at the vicinity of the Yayasan Jetty in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The campaign was led by Doctor Haji Supry bin Haji Awang Ladi, the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications. The sales campaign is a continuation of the dissemination campaign to highlight the importance wearing life jackets which has been held since the 23rd of December last year. Several companies are invited to provide sales campaign for safety jackets and equipment from 8 in the morning to 6 in the afternoon. The 5-day sales campaign which will be held until this Sunday aims to facilitate the public in obtaining the services directly. The life jackets are available at a price of 10 dollars.
Boat owners are urged to take the opportunity to ensure their boats are fully equipped with life jackets and other safety equipment. During the campaign, the Brunei Darussalam Maritime and Ports Authority also carried out survey with the boat operators. Since its launching last month, several boat operators has begun to wear life jackets. Such move is evident that boat operators took a serious attention on the importance of safety.
The Ministry of Communications and the Maritime and Port Authority have advised the boat operators and passengers to remind each other about the importance of wearing life jackets and to obey the safety regulations.
