Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad has conducted a third reforestation project at the Berakas Forest Reserve, Biodiversity Park as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in protecting and preserving the biodiversity and nature of Brunei Darussalam.
During the tree planting program, more than 80 participants comprising Hengyi staff and volunteers from the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, Forestry Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Brunei’s Beach Bunch, Rotary Club Bandar Seri Begawan, the students of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam under Green Brunei, and members of the Kampung Serasa Consultative Council and the Serasa National Housing Scheme successfully planted 5 hundred saplings at 0 point 5 hectare area.
Nine type of trees were planted namely, Kapur Paji, Selangan Daun Tebal, Binchaloi, Meranti Putih Timbul, Kapur Bukit, Sarang Punai Bukit, Sarang Punai, Sepetir and Merawan Ribu. The trees selected is considered to have a high survival rate in rocky and sandy areas. The project aims to address areas affected by forest fires. Hengyi launches the reforestation project for the replanting of trees in an area of 2 hundred hectares in support of Brunei Darussalam’s commitment under the Biodiversity Convention, the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change through the reduction of smoke emissions from the deforestation program.
