The 40th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Bangkok, Thailand that was joined by 10 countries of the ASEAN Parliament discussed regional issues at the Executive Committee, WAIPA. 29 resolutions were approved and the session ended with the signing of a Joint Statement by head of delegations of AIPA. Brunei Darussalam was represented by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of the Legislative Council and 9 Members of the Legislative Council. Also representing the country was Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar, Secretary of the Cabinet Ministers' Council and Clerk to the Legislative Council.
The Speaker of the Legislative Council in his speech said AIPA is always facing challenges in representing the voices of the people, and it is important to know and respect AIPA member countries. This is a foundation for developing uninterrupted cooperation, discussion and consensus.
In observing the ever growing strategic partnership between AIPA and ASEAN, Yang Berhormat stated that it has showed the commitment and involvement of member countries in realising the aspirations of ASEAN vision and ensure that the people continues to enjoy sustainable peace, stability and prosperity. The Speaker of the Legislative Council also shared that Brunei Darussalam will continue to support the efforts of tackling global and regional challenges through partnership and multilateralism.
