In efforts to make the quality of education in the country at par globally, the education system in the country has been formulated to make its level and quality comparable with current needs and development with the international level.
The Honorary Member of the Board of Governors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School highlighted the matter at the Excellent Student Academic Awards ceremony of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School for BC-GCE 'O' level 2017. The ceremony took place yesterday morning at the Multi-purpose Hall of the school in Berakas.
Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Hairani binti Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar among other things said that although the education level in the country is becoming more challenging specifically in the academic, the nation should be proud that there are Bruneians who have achieved excellence that rivals the achievements of international students. Some have even surpassed targets and achieved excellence in specific subjects. She also touched on the new challenges faced by the students in the era of globalisation and info-communication technology development. Pengiran Datin added that the situation can bring bad effect towards learning when some students spend most of their time playing 'gadgets' and neglected their main responsibilities in education. Therefore, teachers and parents should play their roles to monitor and guide students to be wise in using such technology, selecting and evaluating useful and relevant information in order to facilitate them in education.
44 students received the awards. The Best Student Award was awarded to Dayang Farah Nurhaliza binti Doctor Andi Tabrani with 9 'O' including 6 'A' and A star in Biology. Dayang Farah Nurhaliza explained that her dream to achieve a bright future acts as an aspiration for her to continue studying and perform the best in examinations.
