475 Graduates Receive Degrees and Diplomas

In the afternoon session, His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office as Pro-Chancellor of University Brunei Darussalam conferred degrees and diplomas to 475 graduates. The ceremony took place at Chancellor Hall of UBD.

The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education and Datin Doctor Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice Chancellor of UBD.

His Royal Highness then conferred the Bachelor and Masters Degrees and Diplomas to the graduates.

199 graduates completed their Masters in Public Policy and Management; Economy; Business Administration; Logistics; Islamic Finance; Management; Literature; Science; Public Health; Education; Counselling and Teaching. UBD highly emphasised the importance of quality research and learning based on the principles of innovation and leadership; entrepreneurship; and attentiveness towards the environment. All of this have contributed to the success of UBD as one of the top listed universities in the world.

Meanwhile, 61 graduates received the Bachelor of Health Science; 23 were awarded the Bachelor of Engineering; and 173 graduates were conferred the Bachelor of Business. 19 other graduates received Diplomas in education and health science.

Early this year, UBD was ranked 298th in the Quacquarelli Symonds, Q.S World University Rankings. This was measured through several key indicators including academic reputation and the faculty-student ratio. UBD also showed significant improvements in the said indicators specifically in the faculty-student ratio and the International Faculty, where UBD is ranked 61st and 47th in the world respectively. This indicated the continuous efforts of UBD in making the GenNEXT programme a success.

The Doa Selamat was recited by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

In the recent years, UBD has stressed on an education system that is related to entrepreneurial mindset and experience-based learning. UBD believes that instilling entrepreneurial education and experience-based learning will allow the graduates to be brave in exploring job opportunities and businesses, raise their entrepreneurial competency, and make use of skills and knowledge gained from programmes to produce new and creative ideas.
