Five locals are being detained on suspicion of involvement in the misuse and trafficking of controlled drugs.
The Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB arrested 3 men and 2 women aged between 31 and 61 years during a raid on a semi-detached house at Kampung Rimba Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme in Gadong.
During an inspection, the Narcotics Control Bureau uncovered and seized plastic packets containing 52.26 grams of suspected Methylamphetamine and 4 tablets believed to Erimin 5 as well as apparatus used for drug consumption.
The case is being investigated under Section 3A of the Misuse of Drugs Act (MDA), Chapter 27, for the possession of controlled drugs for the purpose of trafficking that carries a minimum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and fifty strokes of the cane and maximum penalty of 30 years imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane; Section 6(a) Chapter 27 for the possession of controlled drugs that carries a minimum penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of twenty thousand dollars or both.
Section 6(b) Chapter 2, for the consumption of controlled drugs that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of twenty thousand dollars or both, and Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27 for the possession of utensils used for drug consumption that carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of ten thousand dollars or both.
The 61 year old female, owner of the premise will also be investigated under Section 9 of the MDA, Chapter 27 for permitting drug activities to take place in the premise. The offence carries a minimum penalty of 2 years imprisonment or a fine of four thousand dollars or both or a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment or a fine of forty thousand dollars or both.
The Narcotics Control Bureau wishes to remind the public that drug offences are regarded as serious offences and any involvement in any form of drug activities including permitting drug related activities to take place in premises owned, may carry capital punishment under the Misuse of Drug Act, Chapter 27.
