51st Anniversary of Name Change from Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan

In conjunction with the Commemoration of the 51st Anniversary of the Name Change from Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan, yesterday afternoon, a Reading of Surah Yaasin and Tahlil Ceremony for the late parents of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit as well as His Majesty’s son, Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji `Abdul `Azim.

The virtual ceremony ran concurrently with a Doa Kesyukuran. Present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar Bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs. The name Bandar Brunei was changed on the 4th of October 1970, to Bandar Seri Begawan, in commemoration of the deeds of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien in the development and modernisation of Brunei Darussalam.
