The 5th ASEAN Children’s Forum ended last evening with a Gala Night. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s children, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, graced the event which took place at Serambi Suluh, Tarindak D’Seni in Jalan Residency, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness were greeted by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Awang Haji Amer Hamzah bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as representative of Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare Development Brunei Darussalam; and Dayang Rostinah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Sura Pahlawan Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Tahir, Acting Director of Community Development.
His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness then watched the ‘Senandung Budaya’ cultural performances by Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Yippie Music School.
In his welcoming address, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports said among other matters the ASEAN Children’s Forum established from the 31st ASEAN Summit in 2017 in Manila, Philippines.
During the event, Nurul Farah Nabila binti Kamaruddin, a delegate from Malaysia presented the outcomes of the 3-day forum, which will become an action plan to be presented to ASEAN leaders as reference for the policy preparation, involving effective and beneficial issues in the ASEAN region.
The event continued with video clip presentation of all the activity during the forum. The forum was participated by 70 participants from ASEAN nations including representative from ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (A-C-W-C). Each ASEAN member state is represented by 3 children of ages between 12 to 18 years old accompanied by 2 adult mentor.
The Gala Night which was highlighted with several cultural performances. The 5th ASEAN Children Forum is a project under the ASEAN Strategic Framework on Social Welfare and Development for the year 2016 – 2020.
Before leaving the event, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness received a pasambah in the form of several drawings produced by children from each ASEAN member states.
The ASEAN Children’s Forum is held every 2 years since it began in the Philippines in 2010. This year’s forum has 4 key topics namely, Peace; Respect for all, Care for the environment and Healthy lifestyle. With the theme ‘Our Children, Our Future, Our ASEAN’, the forum continues to be a relevant platform for ASEAN children to express their views and pursue their aspirations for issues that affect their lives and other regional issues of their interest.
