64 Vehicle Fires Reported this Year

As of the 5th of October, 64 vehicle fire cases were reported to the Fire and Rescue Department. In a media conference on vehicle fire incidents recently, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications said the frequency of such incidents is of concern, and raises the need of a research to be conducted to understand and learn the possible causes of vehicle fire.

 

Research has been carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications with the assistance of third party agencies, involving victims of vehicle fires from August to September this year. The Land Transport Department, LTD’s observation revealed that the rampant existence of workshops in the country is due to workshops that are not registered with the appropriate parties, and carrying out operation that should require accreditation. In this regard, Yang Berhormat advised premise and workshop owners to cooperate by registering as a certified workshop under LTD. Yang Berhormat also reminded members of the public to always be wise when sending their vehicles for maintenance, and follow the maintenance schedule at registered workshops.

 

According to the Fire and Rescue Department’s record, 101 vehicle fire cases were recorded in the 2017, the highest number of cases recorded.
