75% Positive Cases are not yet Vaccinated

Since control measures have been tightened following the second wave of COVID-19 in the country on the 7th of August 2021, government agencies, non-government organisations, volunteers and the public have worked together to curb transmission in the country. However, the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy said the number of positive cases have yet to decrease and at the same time, isolation centres are increasingly reaching maximum capacity, with bed occupancy is at 78 per cent.

Based on the statistics for the last 2 months, 75 per cent of the positive cases are not yet vaccinated, 17 per cent received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and only 8 per cent have completed the COVID-19 vaccination. Approximately 1 per cent of the patients will experience severe symptoms until they require treatment at the Intensive Care Unit. So far, there are no patients who have completed their vaccination in Category 5. From the statistics, it highlights the importance of accelerating protection through vaccination. This effort is also vital to not burden the healthcare system. In the coming weeks, the Government will enhance efforts to ensure 80 per cent of the country’s population will complete the 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine before the end of 2021. This is a huge effort as the targeted date to reach 80 per cent is in March 2022.
