78th ESCAP Session

In mobilizing collective efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, the Universal Health Coverage by 2030 must be accelerated. According to the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, by leveraging bilateral and multilateral ties, resilience in healthcare systems can be further strengthened. Speaking at the 78th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, ESCAP held virtually, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud stated that the contribution from the existing collaboration under ESCAP is valued, and further progress is welcomed.

The Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office further added the importance of responsive regional action to the threat of climate change since such action is instrumental in supporting Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, GHG by 20 percent by 2030. To keep up with the commendable momentum of ESCAP in environmental protection, Yang Berhormat stated that ESCAP could do more in building efficient pathways for reducing GHG.

The Session brought together all ESCAP members to discuss the future of regional cooperation in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The session is expected to endorse the Bangkok Declaration commemorating the 75th Anniversary of ESCAP: A common agenda to advance sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.
