8th UNISSA Convocation Festival

His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday morning officiated the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA’s 8th Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj or Convocation Festival.

Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince as Pro-Chancellor of UNISSA was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education as Chairman of the UNISSA Council; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Deputy Chairman of the UNISSA Council; and Doctor Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA as Chairman of UNISSA’s 8th Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj Executive Committee.

The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and doa led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.

His Royal Highness then officiated UNISSA’s 8th Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj.

This year’s Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj carries the theme “Belia Berkepimpinan Menjayakan Wawasan Negara” or Youth with Leadership, Making a Success of Wawasan Negara. The theme highlights the UNISSA youth’s contribution towards realising Wawasan Negara 20-35 which focuses on an educated, highly skilled and successful population; enhancing citizens’ life quality as well as a dynamic and sustainable economy.

One of the Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj activities is the exhibition showcasing Prominent Islamic Youth Figures during the era of Islamic glory such as the Mazhab Syafi’e pioneers, mathematical system explorers, Amirul Mukmin in Hadith, Islamic medical figures, explorers of sociology and umrans. The exhibition also showcases Brunei Darussalam’s Leadership figures who had propagated Islamic eminence, Islamic development leaders, modernisation revolution catalysers, Islamic Political figures and contributions of local youth figures.

At the festival, His Royal Highness also launched 27 new books in various fields published by UNISSA.

The new UNISSA book publications are the literary works of local and overseas academic workforce. From the 27 books published, 7 books are in Malay including a special publication in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of UNISSA, 4 in English and 12 books in the Arabic Language. UNISSA also published 3 journals and a monograph.

His Royal Highness received a pasambah in the form of the new books published by UNISSA.

UNISSA’s students also showcased projects that highlights their involvement in educational and community activities locally and abroad. The Mahrajan Haflut Takharruj organised by the Student Affairs Section is held to further enliven UNISSA’s Haflut Takharruj or Convocation Ceremony, and celebrate the graduands who have completed their studies.

At the Dewan Perpaduan, a bazaar sale is being held, participated by UNISSA’s Student Representative Council, the Faculty of Economy and Islamic Finance students and members of the public. The bazaar is open to the public until this Tuesday, from 8 in the morning until 9 in the evening.

The exhibition by the Faculty of Islamic Development Management, showcases a number of courses offered in Malay, English and Arabic Languages. Established in January last year, the faculty’s vision is the commitment towards central excellence and dynamism in Islamic Development management, history and civilisation.

The exhibition also showcases the research works of UNISSA students on the role of female religious lecturers in the country in teaching society through media. The research focused on the involvement of female religious lecturers in the efforts of Islamic propagation, knowledge sharing and spiritual rehabilitation.

The history of the Falaq Syar’ie development in the country is showcased by UNISSA’s Life-Long Leadership Centre. The centre which offers various courses, is seen as able to act as a catalyst in knowledge enrichment and empowerment of skills of all levels of society regardless of age aside from capable of further strengthening the professionalism of civil servants.

Also participating in the exhibition are the Survey Department and the Brunei Darussalam Astronomy Association as well a number of youth associations and organisations.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince received a pasambah.

The Mahrajan Haflut Al-Takharruj is held until the 11th of this month. Several competitions and academic sessions are lined up for the event, including youth forum, jawi calligraphy contest and workshop, mass prayer strengthening workshop, English Oratory Competition and workshop as well as a number of games. UNISSA’s 8th Haflut Takharruj or Convocation Ceremony will be held on the 17th of this month.
