The addition of Tuesday to the No Plastic Bag Everyday Initiative begins yesterday, making it six days in a week without the use of plastic carrier bags in participating stores and shops. This extension is part of the Government’s effort in realizing no plastic bags usage everyday by the 1st January 2019.
The initiative aims to enhance the concept of reduce, reuse, recycle with regards to plastic bag usage, aside from reducing the amount of plastic waste in the country. At the same time, it also aims to encourage the use of reusable bags which are more environmentally-friendly and instil a green practice. The initiative is intended to create a country of quality, in line with Wawasan Brunei 20-35. Success in realising the desire to make Brunei Darussalam free from plastic pollution is entirely dependent on the actions and involvement of all parties, especially the supermarkets and business establishments, retail shop owners and the public as the consumers. Meanwhile, the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, Ministry of Development will implement the addition of Monday to the initiative starting from the 31st of December, realising the goal of No Plastic Bag Everyday by the 1st of January 2019.
