His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Darussalam has awarded the Honorary Membership of the Special Forces Regiment to His Majesty's son His Royal Highness Captain (Udara) Prince Abdul Mateen. The ceremony was held at the Bolkiah Garrison Mini Stadium. Earlier, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam watched the Arena Performance involving officers and personnel of the Special Forces Regiment of the RBAF and its assets. Also present was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Arena Performance showcased the infiltration tactics and techniques of the Special Forces' elite members in aborting a terrorist operation. Taking part in the action full display was His Royal Highness Captain (Udara) Prince 'Abdul Mateen. With only a small team, the elite soldiers used the infiltration method to enter the target area using the 'fast roping' method from a Blackhawk helicopter.
The second segment showed a terrorist who ran away from the scene of fighting being caught by the interceptor team using a 'Special Operation Vehicle' and motorcycles to block terrorists' movement and aborting their mission.
4 Special Forces members performed parachute jumps from a Blackhawk helicopter from a height of three thousand and five hundred feet. The elite soldiers are skilled in infiltrating target areas using tactical parachute jumps.
Two Special Forces snipers showed the fast withdrawal technique using the 'Multi Rope Absiel'. The method is used for fast withdrawal from the objective area or position towards a location that is safe from the terrorists' threat without a trace.
Equipped with very high skills and capabilities, the Special Forces personnel were able to defeat all the terrorists.
The event continued with the awarding of the Special Forces Regiment's Honorary Membership to His Royal Highness Prince Captain (Udara) 'Abdul Mateen. The awarding of the Honorary Membership is based on the high fighting spirit of His Royal Highness including strong courage, warrior spirit and far sighted vision. The Letter of Award was read by Majo Mohd Azmi bin Mohd Taib, Deputy Commander of the RBAF Special Forces Regiment.
His Majesty then consented to award the Honorary Membership of the Special Forces Regiment as well as the Berets, Dagger and Insignia of the Special Forces Regiment to His Royal Highness Captain (Udara) Prince 'Abdul Mateen. The RBAF's Special Forces Regiment insignia symbolises the Sovereignty and the loyalty of the Special Unit to religion, the Monarch, the race and nation.
Doa Selamat was read by head of the RBAF Religious Department.
Before departing from the Arena Field, His Majesty was briefed on the RBAF'S participation at the 11th Annual Warrior Competition in Amman, Jordan last April. The annual competition that gathers elite special forces, military units and Law Enforcement units from around the world is intended to sharpen the skills of the personnel and understanding about special operations and fighting terrorists. The Special Forces Regiment's second team won third place in the competition.
