The title of the paintings ‘Lidah Sejarah 1’ and ‘Lidah Sejarah 2’ has brought luck to Awang Marsidi bin Omar who won first place for categories ‘A’ and ‘B’ in the Art Competition in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 72nd birthday celebration. The prize presentation and exhibition for the competition was held yesterday morning at the Art Gallery, Bandar Seri Begawan Royal Wharf.
Prizes were presented by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs. This year, 37 people took part in the competition which was divided into 3 categories. The Art competition is hoped to encourage local artists to produce more art works aside from giving a boost to young artists, youths and school students to come forward in the art arena and hone their talents.
Awang Marsidi bin Omar, the 57 year old first prize winner has been painting for 30 years. In an interview with RTB, Awang Marsidi explained that the process of completing the paintings can take up to one month.
Also present was Awang Salminan bin Haji Burut, Permanent Secretary for Municipal and District at the Ministry of Home Affairs and his deputy, Awang Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan. The Art Exhibition is open to the public until Thursday, 6th of September from 9 in the morning until 4.30 in the afternoon except for Friday, from 9 to 11.30 in the morning and from 2.30 to 4.30 in the afternoon.
