Bandar seri begawan: ASEAN Day for Disaster Management serves as a critical platform to emphasize the ongoing efforts to bolster regional resilience and preparedness against disasters. The Minister of Home Affairs highlighted that over the past two decades, the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response has been pivotal in supporting regional solidarity and fostering an integrated approach to disaster risk management. The current threats, exacerbated by climate change, are more complex and unpredictable than before, making the old paradigm of single-agency disaster handling obsolete. These points were underscored by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Chair of the National Disaster Council, during the ASEAN Day for Disaster Management celebration on the morning of October 11th.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat further elaborated on a clear national mandate that emphasizes a more integrated and proactive stance in all aspects of disa
ster risk management. The National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC), along with other agencies, is encouraged to collaborate, emphasizing the Whole of Government and Whole of Nation approaches as essential in achieving this objective.
In efforts to foster an integrated disaster management ecosystem, the Disaster Management Strategic Policy Framework book and the Basic Public Safety Guide 2025 Edition were launched. Additionally, a preparedness exhibition was held, showcasing the involvement of various stakeholders in disaster management and response, including government and non-governmental agencies as well as Higher Education Institutions. Among the attendees was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister for Security and Law at the Prime Minister’s Office.
