An ASEAN Folklore story competition is an initiative of the Language and Literature Bureau in providing a platform to develop a positive psychology, encourages participants’ cognitive and psychometric development in presenting their potential and capabilities. According to the Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau, the competition also acts as motivation for participants to think creative, imaginative and expressive in accordance to the context in a story.
In her speech at the ASEAN Folklore story competition, Dayang Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak explained that the competition featured the ASEAN countries folklores which includes myth, fairy-tale, legend and oral story. It aimed to expose the folklore stories to young generation in the country and to teach on the culture, history and socio economy of ASEAN nations.
Dayang Siti Maisarah binti Mohammad Asnawi emerged as champion for Category A with a folklore story from Singapore titled “Singapura, Kota Singa”, while Category B was won by Awangku Muhammad Aqil Nufail bin Pengiran Hasnul Bahrin with a story titled, “Ma-Pu-Kywe and Little Snail, a folklore story from Myanmar. Prizes were presented by Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
