Basic Sign Language Workshop Empowers Religious Leaders

Bandar seri begawan: Sign language knowledge is important in interaction with people with disabilities, particularly hearing impaired people, especially for sermons and the pillars of marriage, ijab and qabul and marriage taklik. These skills were among those acquired by participants in the Basic Sign Language Workshop for Imams and marriage solemnizers, organised by the Training and Competency Improvement Centre, Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB, in collaboration with the Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs. The 2-day workshop was held at the University College.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the workshop aimed to improve the competence and skills of participants in line with the needs of lifelong education through a comprehensive approach. The initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that religious leaders are equipped to communicate effectively with all members of the community, particularly those who are hearing impaired.
