The Bruneians Around Sydney Society (BASS) recently organised an event themed “Beraya Bersama High Comm” to celebrate Aidilfitri this year.
Haji Zakaria bin Haji Ahmad, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Australia, was the guest of honour at the event which took place in the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney.
Also present were the Director of Studies, Pengiran Muhd Noor Shah bin Pengiran Muhammad and Education Attache, Pengiran Ahmad Masudwardi bin Pengiran Mohd Daud.
According to a press release, 64 Brunei scholars undergoing twinning programmes in Petroleum and Chemical Engineering as well as Maths and Business majors attended the event.
It began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and the singing of the national anthem followed by a welcoming speech by the BASS President, Siti Nabilah binti Haji Abu Nipah.
Haji Zakaria commended BASS for organising the event, noting the importance of the events as a way to stay connected and experience Hari Raya away from home and family.
Two talented students then sang the classic “Suasana Di Hari Raya” and shortly after, the group had a photo session followed by dinner.
The event ended with the announcement of best dressed gentleman and lady of the night, the “Awang Raya” and “Dayang Raya” who were elated to also win “Duit Raya”.
