Borneo Global Issues Conference Highlights Commitment to Sustainable Practices

Bandar seri begawan: Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab-Rahaman highlighted the importance of transitioning towards sustainable practices and energy during the Opening Ceremony of the 21st International School Brunei Borneo Global Issues Conference (ISB BGIC). Her Royal Highness emphasized this transition as a significant national priority, ensuring that the nation's progress aligns with its heritage.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the conference was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education, and supported by the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office, the Australian High Commission, and the British High Commission. Held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, the event commenced on the morning of April 11th. Her Royal Highness was welcomed by Dominic Morley, ISB Executive Principal, upon her arrival.

The theme for the conference, 'Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy,' was addressed in the welcoming speech by ISB Executive Principal Dominic Morley. Keynote addresses were delivered by Ken O'Flaherty, Acting British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, and Tim Jarvis AM, a British-Australian environmental scientist, who both shared insights on sustainable energy.

Her Royal Highness reiterated the pride of the citizens and residents in the responsibility to protect the environment for future generations. She noted that energy and environmental challenges transcend borders, underscoring the interconnectedness of global choices. Her Royal Highness also presented participation certificates to representatives from 23 schools, including one from abroad, and mementos to conference sponsors and supporters.
