Brunei and Singapore Elevate Strategic Cooperation at Inaugural JCMM

Bandar seri begawan: The Inaugural Joint Committee Ministerial Meeting (JCMM) between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore marked a pivotal step in enhancing strategic cooperation between the two nations. This meeting aimed to bolster institutional coordination and drive impactful outcomes across key sectors, including food security, medical product supply, low-carbon energy, and the green economy. The landmark event took place on 15th September in Singapore, co-chaired by Brunei’s Minister at The Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew bin Abdullah, alongside Singapore’s Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science and Technology, Dr. Tan See Leng.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Amin Liew emphasized the significance of strengthening collaboration between the two countries by leveraging their respective advantages, particularly in navigating the global economic landscape’s uncertainties. He also underscored the importance of platforms such as APEC, ASEAN, and the newly established Future of Investment and Trade Partnership as avenues for ongoing discussions on emerging issues affecting member economies, including supply chains.

The collaboration between Brunei and Singapore allows for the review of progress and the setting of new directions for senior officials to advance bilateral and regional cooperation further. During the meeting, both leaders praised the steady progress achieved by the Working Groups and expressed strong support for extending cooperation beyond existing agreements on food and energy. They identified human capital development and tourism as potential areas for future collaboration.
