Brunei Darussalam and Jordan

The State Visit of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan further enhances the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The long existing ties are based on the principles of brotherly relations as well as deep mutual respect and understanding.

Brunei Darussalam and Jordan have established diplomatic relations for more than three decades, starting on the 18th of February 1985. The relations continued to flourish and cooperation between the two nations were further strengthened when Brunei Darussalam officially opened its Embassy in the Jordanian capital, Amman on the 18th of March 1996.

The close friendship between the leaders of Brunei Darussalam and Jordan is not solely because of the strong relations of the two Monarchs but also as leaders and members of regional and international organisations. The two small sovereign kingdoms play active roles in the Non-Aligned Movement, NAM, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC and the United Nations or the UN.

Reciprocal visits and other exchanges are among the main factors that contribute to the valuable friendship and wide ranging cooperation between the two countries. The cooperation includes defence and both countries have participated in international events such as BRIDEX, BISAM and the Brunei International Tattoo.

Another important area is education. Since 2012, sixty Brunei Government Scholarship students have completed their studies at several universities in Jordan. Six Jordanian students have also received scholarships from the government of Brunei Darussalam since 2010. So far, the two nations have signed 6 Memorandums of Understanding in Education and presently, 16 Brunei students are studying at the University of Jordan.

The visit of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to Jordan is not simply seen as a State Visit, but more so as a meeting of two leaders who continue to build upon their countries' close brotherly relations, cooperation and friendship.
