The involvement of youths in the Brunei Darussalam Regatta is hoped to stimulate the interest and spirit of youths to continue develop the boat racing event not only as a traditional sports event but also to give an impact on sports and tourism in the country. This was voiced by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs as the co-Advisor of the Brunei Darussalam Regatta Executive Committee during the Brunei Darussalam Regatta Executive Committee meeting in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 73rd birthday celebration. The meeting to review and update the event's itinerary took place yesterday afternoon at the Brunei Muara District Office.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar said the regatta has been organised for the past several years and has attracted regatta enthusiasts from neighbouring countries. The event has also attracted the interest of secondary school and higher education institution students as well as youths.
Among those present were Yang Behormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism and Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports as the Co-Chairmen of the Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2019 Executive Committee Meeting. The Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2019 will take place this SUNDAY, 25th of August in the morning and afternoon at the Brunei River in front of the Bandar Seri Begawan Royal Wharf.
