Brunei: The selection of students and meticulous preparation carried out by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) were key factors in the success of the Brunei Darussalam Robotics Team in the First Global Challenge held in Panama last year. It began with the students' participation in the 'Robotic Coding Conquest' Workshop, an annual programme organised by UTB, which is specifically open to schools under the 'Adopt-A-School' Initiative.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the schools involved included the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls' Secondary Arabic Religious School, and Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School. During the workshop, students were exposed to Artificial Intelligence and the 'Internet of Things'.
The robot used in the First Global Challenge was designed with an emphasis on strategic flexibility, accuracy, and durability, enabling teams to adapt to various international alliances. Such a competition provides opportunities for national teams to interact and exchange ideas with teams from over 180 countries, fostering the spirit of global cooperation in science and technology.
Continuous support from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Education opens up opportunities for students to master cutting-edge technology, thus contributing to the advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education.
