The capital yesterday morning was further enlivened by the presence of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam visiting and witnessing the Brunei December Festival, BDF 2019's activities and exhibitions. Also present were His Majesty's sons; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik. Brunei December Festival is the government's initiative to encourage the country's people to be active while on holiday and at the same time, to attract foreign visitors to choose Brunei Darussalam as their preferred tourist destination.
Subsequently after joining the Recreational Cycling, His Majesty watched the Domino project that depicted one of the country's landmarks which is Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Bridge as well as the names of Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB, Brunei Darussalam Reading and Literacy Association RELA and December Brunei Festival. The project using 60,000 pieces of dominoes was presented by 17 UTB students with the cooperation of RELA. The number of dominoes used has enabled UTB to renew its Brunei Book of Records.
This year's BDF has gathered 68 events to further highlight and fulfil end of year holiday nationwide. His Majesty visited the event organisers' booths that showcased their respective activities. BDF is divided into 5 main clusters namely Food Festival; Islamic Festival; Culture and Art; Recreation and Sales as well as extreme sports.
Among the projects that attracted His Majesty's attention was 'Big Begawan Project.' It aimed to provide a platform for small entrepreneurs operating from home to showcase and sell their products.
The Monarch also visited the Veteran Motocycle Club. Established in 2018, the role of the club is to reduce the rate of road accident by educating and raising awareness among the country's riders to ride cautiously.
Meanwhile, Youth Transformation Community Club acts as BDF volunteers committee. 100 youths are involved as volunteers to assist the organisers in making a success of the events.
The festival is also hoped to discover the local youth talents by showcasing their creativity and involving the Small and Medium Entrepreneurs, SME's in performance, competition, exhibition and event management.
His Majesty also witnessed the products sold by BIBD SEEDS participants. The participants make their income through home-based businesses either online or from stalls.
BDF 2019 also reflected solid cooperation between the government and private agencies as well as educational institutions and non-governmental organisations in organising attractive events for the whole of December.
The National Road Safety Council or MKKJR also exhibited basic safety features that road users need to know. Several quizzes and activities were also held as part of the council's efforts in educating road users on the importance of road safety.
Brunei Darussalam Kites Association, PEKIKIK showcased the interconnected kites. His Majesty watched 215 interconnected kites as a recognition to the Brunei Book of Records.
This year marked the 3rd year of BDF. It is organised by Brunei Darussalam Tourism Board with the cooperation of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and supported by the Ministry of Finance and Economy; Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
