Montreal: Brunei Darussalam expressed its appreciation towards the International Civil Aviation Organisation, ICAO’s role in establishing a safe, secure, efficient, and sustainable global aviation sector. The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications in his speech during the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly held in Montreal, Canada explained that Brunei Darussalam supports ICAO’s mandate and strategic objectives through efforts to enhance operational efficiency and resiliency of the aviation infrastructure.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha emphasised the priority given to improving the safety and operational capabilities of Brunei International Airport which is needed to support economic growth and the country’s strategic interests in the aviation industry.
Regarding the environment, Yang Berhormat welcomed the efforts of ICAO in promoting the implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, CORSIA, while at the same time emphasising the need for sustainable aviation fuels to be more available and affordable to meet global decarbonisation goals, including net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
During the Assembly, Yang Berhormat also held a series of bilateral meetings with key aviation leaders to explore opportunities for cooperation in aviation safety, maintenance and human capital development. It aims to enhance the country’s resilience and competitiveness, as well as strengthen strategic relationships with international partners. The country’s active participation in this gathering reflects its strong commitment to international cooperation and its determination to advance the safety, efficiency and sustainability of global air transport.
