Cause of Forest Fire still Under Investigation

The cause of a forest fire along the Muara-Tutong Highway nearby Universiti Brunei Darussalam that occurred on 3rd May, is still under investigation, and no casualty was reported.

Approximately 70 hectares of government land were destroyed in the fire. 4 fire engines with 21 Fire and Rescue personnel from the Rimba Fire Station, Lambak Kanan Fire Station and Women’s Operation Unit Fire Station were deployed to the scene. The firefighting effort was also assisted by the Royal Brunei Air Force through the National Disaster Management Centre, where a helicopter was used to dump water from the air. Various methods and techniques were used to put out the fire such as using nearby fire hydrants, open water and snap tanks. There were difficulties in putting out the fire as the fire took place deep in the forest, on hills and residential areas.
