More than 6-hundred people took part in the Walk, Run and Cycling Charity Activity in conjunction with World Cancer Day, yesterday morning. The activity is aimed at raising awareness and knowledge in efforts to reduce the impact of cancer as well as towards becoming healthy citizens. The event began and ended at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien.
Present to participate as well as launch the run and cycling categories were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Info-Communications; and Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. The run is divided into 3 categories which were the 10; 5; and 3 kilometres while the Walkathon was for 1 point 5 kilometres; and the cycling event was for 10 kilometres.
World Cancer Day is celebrated every 4th of February. The activity organised by the Community Welfare Council, MKM in collaboration with the Ministry of Health through the Health Promotion Centre and the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre aimed to collect funds for MKM charity projects and activities towards helping the less fortunate in the country.
