Children’s Rights Awareness Programme

It is important for each child to know the Children's Rights including the right to learn and love. Apart from that, parents and the society also have a crucial role in raising awareness on Children's Rights. This was stressed by Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, Member of the Legislative Council in an interview at the launching of the Children's Rights Awareness Programme held in conjunction with the National Family Day 2017,yesterday.

According to Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy, the government and a number of agencies have organised various programmes to raise awareness on children's rights. Now it is up to the society including families, village residents, schools and youth to decide on how to support and assist in the matter.

The Children's Rights Awareness Programme aimed to disseminate information and raise awareness and understanding on the Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Article 19. The article takes measures to protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment and violence. A number of agencies such as the Crime and Investigation Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force and Student Affairs Unit took part in the programme organised by the Community Development Department in cooperation of the Student Movement Body of the faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University Brunei Darussalam. More than 100 pupils of Year 3 to Year 6 from government and non-government schools participated in the programme.
