Brunei Darussalam's population comprises of various cultures and races. The harmonious ties fostered among the different races is a vital element that should be given attention to, as strong ethnic relations in the community can ensure economic stability and social ties in the country. This year's Chinese New Year celebration was further enlivened with open house visits. Today, the Chinese community in the country celebrated the New Year by holding gatherings with family and friends.
Among those holding an open house function was Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Awang Goh King Chin. Among those present were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Ibrahim, the Special Advisor to His Majesty and Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin Bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs; and Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
Also holding an open house function at his residence in Jalan Kebangsaan was Yang Berhormat Awang Ong Tiong Oh, Member of the Legislative Council. Aside from strengthening unity among the different races and ethnic groups in the country, the practise of holding Open Houses can also create a sense of goodwill and strengthen existing ties.
