Collection for the Mosque Construction Fund which was launched more than two years ago has received an encouraging response. Up to 31st December 2017, the collection was 7 million, 503 thousand, 9 hundred dollars. Sharing the matter, the Minister of Religious Affairs expressed appreciation for the good response from the public who are contributing to the fund with the intention and understanding that they are also investing in the hereafter by donating through the Mosque Construction Fund scheme. To fulfil the intentions of these donors, Yang Berhormat Pehin said that the Islamic Religious Council has approved plans for the construction of two mosques, which have been consented by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The two mosques are Kampong Tanjung Bunut mosque, which is now under construction with the cost of 3.6 million dollars and expected to be completed in June this year. Meanwhile, the construction of Bukit Panggal mosque is now open for tender and will commence in the near future. The Ministry is also evaluating proposals to construct several mosques in the next 5 years by making use of proceeds from the fund, which is projected to collect 18 million dollars based on an average monthly collection of 300 thousand dollars, from the 1st of January 2018 until the 31st of December 2023. Yang Berhormat Pehin said the proposal will be brought up in the Brunei Islamic Religious Council meeting and the public especially those who have contributed to the fund will learn the details of the plan from time to time. This includes 55 thousand 173 civil servants and personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Royal Brunei Police Force who make permanent and voluntary monthly contributions through salary deductions. The Minister also shared that the collection for December 2017 alone was recorded totalling 171 thousand 262 dollars and 9 cents.
