Consumer Price Index Falls in August 2025 Due to Price Drops in Key Sectors

Bandar seri begawan: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August 2025 experienced a 0.4 per cent decrease in comparison to August 2024. This decline was primarily influenced by reductions in the indices of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, as well as Non-Food items. Key contributors to the decline in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index were the reductions in prices of vegetables, notably red onions, and meats, particularly chicken.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Non-Food index decrease was largely impacted by variations in exchange rates affecting online media subscription services and changes in motor vehicle insurance costs. On a month-to-month basis, the CPI slipped by 0.2 per cent from July 2025 to August 2025. This was attributed to a decline in the Non-Food index, even though there was an increase in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index. The comprehensive report on the CPI for August 2025 is accessible on the JPES website.
