The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam, AiTi will take appropriate action against mobile phone vendors who sell unsafe mobile phones. Hence, AiTi has implemented two control procedures for imported mobile phones. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Transport and Info-communications shared the matter in response to a query raised by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Umarali bin Esung in yesterday's session.
Firstly, companies wishing to import radio communications and telecommunications equipment including mobile phones need to obtain dealers' license from AiTi. Secondly, the equipment need to acquire type approval from AiTi and through this, AiTi will review the technical specifications of the device or mobile phone to ensure it can be safely used in the country. The Minister of Transport and Info-communications advices the public to buy telecommunications equipment and mobile phones that have type approval from AiTi which can be seen from special sticker on the equipment.
