A 37-year-old local man who is working as a warder at the Prisons Department, Ministry of Home Affairs is charged before the Magistrate’s Court in Bandar Seri Begawan for offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131 and Prisons Act, Chapter 51.
Asmali bin Abdullah was charged for two offences under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131 for receiving gratification on two occasions amounting to$100 on 13th March 2022, and $200 on 26th April 2022 from two different persons as an inducement or reward for respectively allowing, without authorized permission two prisoners to communicate with persons outside of prison using his mobile phone. The defendant is also charged with another offence under the Prisons Rule of the Prisons Act for committing an offence of conveying communication without lawful authority to a prisoner. The defendant has pleaded not guilty to all three charges. The case will be further mentioned on 3rd October 2022.
The defendant was released on court bail of $10,000 or in 2 local sureties with other attached conditions.
