Corruption Case

 

A 52-year-old local man working as Senior Chief Immigration Officer at the Department of Immigration and National Registration, Ministry of Home Affairs is charged for two offences under Section 165 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22.

 

Seruji bin Haji Setia is charged for respectively obtaining carpets without consideration or with consideration which is inadequate from persons who is connected with his official function as a public officer. Preliminary investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, ACB revealed that the Defendant, who at the time of the commission of the offences was a Senior Chief Immigration Officer of the Department of Immigration and National Registration, Ministry of Home Affairs, had on 9th January 2022 obtained without payment three rolls of carpets with an estimated value of $1,420 from a carpet company, Daiecharm Decor and sometime in April 2022, he also obtained without payment two more carpets with an estimated value of $890 from the same company, in connection to the official function of the defendant being the Head of Work Pass Section at the Department of Immigration and National Registration.

 

The defendant was brought to the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate Court on 27th October. The defendant is therefore remanded for three days and the case is fixed for further mention on 31st October 2022.
