A Filipino National, Dennis Perez Tayag was brought before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's court for an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that sometime on 14th May 2015, the defendant attempted to corruptly offer gratification of a sum of money to a police official holding the rank of constable from the Traffic Control and Investigation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force.
The money was offered by the defendant as an inducement to the said police constable to refrain from taking action against the defendant for not stopping at the Traffic light Intersection, Kampong Bengkurong Masin. The charge was read to the defendant and no plea was taken. The court ordered the defendant to be released on bail amounting to $5,000 or one local surety and for the defendant's passport to be impounded. The court has set a further mention of the case on 1st March 2017.
