Criminal Breach

A public servant holding a position as Assistant Superintendent of Customs, Suyati binti Haji Ahmad Besar, aged 50, was brought to the Intermediate Court yesterday for three offences under section 409 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22, which is offence of criminal breach of trust by a public servant.

Investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau showed that, the defendant who at the time of the alleged offence, was attached to the Finance Unit of the Royal Customs and Excise Department as Head of Finance. It was revealed that the Defendant has misappropriated properties entrusted to her, which was money in the total sum of $982,349.12 being the payment of overtime, mileage and shift allowance claims made by the Royal Customs and Excise Department officers. The court adjourned the case to 18th of October 2022 and released the Defendant on court bail for the amount of 10,000 dollars or with 2 local sureties.
